Alex Batty missing, whats happened to  British teen found in France

Alex Batty, the teenager who reappeared in the UK after being missing for six years, shared in his first interview that he returned for a better future, acknowledging his mother’s positive qualities but recognizing her shortcomings as a parent.

In an interview with the Sun, the 17-year-old revealed that he decided to leave his nomadic lifestyle, devoid of friends and social life, after an argument with his “anti-government, anti-vax” mother. Disenchanted with his situation, he walked 22 miles over two days and was picked up by Fabien Accidini near Toulouse.

Concerned about potential arrests for child abduction, Alex fabricated a story about a four-day mountainous journey to divert police attention. “I’ve been lying to try and protect my mum and grandad, but I realize that they’re probably gonna get caught anyway,” he admitted.

Describing his mother, Melanie Batty, he said, “She’s a great person and I love her, but she’s just not a great mum. I had an argument with my mum, and I just thought I’m gonna leave because I can’t live with her.”

Now under the guardianship of his grandmother in Oldham, Greater Manchester, Alex expressed dissatisfaction with the lifestyle promoted by his mother. He highlighted her “anti-government, anti-vax” stance and emphasized the negative impact on his future.

Realizing that such a life wasn’t conducive to his future, Alex decided to return to the UK. After being cared for by French authorities, he reunited with family in Toulouse and flew back to the UK. Greater Manchester police confirmed that he is now under the legal guardianship of his grandmother, Susan Caruana.

Alex looks forward to rebuilding his life in Greater Manchester, where he grew up before disappearing, and reconnecting with family and friends. His return ends a period during which he lived with his mother and grandfather, traveling through Spain, Morocco, and France. French prosecutors suggested that Melanie Batty may be in Finland, indicating her intention to move there.
