Concepts and New Balance have announced the release date of their highly anticipated “C-Note” collaboration on the 998 model. It is scheduled to arrive at New Balance and Concepts online stores, as well as Concepts’ physical stores in Boston and New York on October 5, priced at $220 USD.

“Money talks, if there’s one thing that hasn’t changed in the last 10 years, it’s that,” said Deon Point, creative director at Concepts. “The C-Note represents us all, it is the universal language of exchange. Whether you are old money or new money, you can relate.”

The New Balance x Concepts 998 collaboration will release globally on October 5, nearly 10 years after the original release, on NewBalance.com, cncpts.com and Concepts locations in Boston and New York. Its suggested retail price is $220 USD. Check out the campaign video and previous installments of the story below to learn all about the shoe’s history and design inspiration.

Update: After Concepts creative director Deon Point hinted at a re-release of the famous Concepts x New Balance 998 “C-Note” collaboration earlier this week, sneaker photographer Tyler “Arab Lincoln” Mansour has provided a look detailed of the remastered sneaker. The original hundred-dollar bill-inspired color scheme and premium suede/mesh construction remain intact, but there’s one notable addition: a script Concepts logo stamped on the lateral heel overlay. Mansour’s photos also reveal a banknote-inspired box, different from the regal red and gold packaging in Point’s post (which could be a friends and family or special edition box).

Information on the release date is still pending, but more details are likely to be revealed soon. In the meantime, he reads the original article below for more details on the history, design, and impact of the “C-Note.”

Original Story: Deon Point, the creative director of Boston-based Concepts, has hinted at a possible re-release of one of his most popular collaborations with New Balance to date: the Made in U.S. New Balance 998 “C-Note”.

Originally released in 2013 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the 998, the inspiration for this pair comes from the redesign of the $100 bill that was also released that same year. Its upper features neutral tones to reflect the paper of the bill, a blue stripe on the toe that mimics that of the iconic redesign, and minimal bronze accents that symbolize the Liberty Bell featured on the 2013 bill.

With the note and the associated model 998 turning a decade old, Point has teased the pair with the headline “Old Money,” leading to speculation that a re-release could be in the works. Other factors supporting this possibility include that the 998 model is approaching its 30th anniversary.
