Born on March 30, 1999, to a mother named Tammy Tate Wilson and father named William D. Gillespie, Demetrice Gillespie is also known as Meechie. He passed away in Charlotte, North Carolina on January 1, 2019. After that day, he went to be with the Lord. Demetrice’s dedication to his family and passion for music make him a valuable gem. His son Pierre Shakeal Gillespie was his most significant accomplishment. Because of his commitment to family, he was beloved by many.
At a young age, Demetrice was exposed to music in his family. His love of music gave him a voice and passion that spread across the country; it also brought joy to his family and neighborhood. Two local musicians Darius and Demetrice have original music on record. Demetrice and his twin brother Darius formed a recording company called D2. They used their musical talents to further develop. Their father, who loves and respects them, was greatly encouraged by their abilities.
Their rise to fame started when Ellen DeGeneres featured them on her show in 2009. They then appeared on two more episodes of the program. After touring across the country and performing live shows, the twins were even more popular. Their videos have been seen on The Oprah Winfrey Show and BET’s 106 & Park. They were hired by the Jonas Brothers, performed at halftime for the previous “Charlotte Bobcats” and participated in Tallahassee Nights Live, a Michael Jackson tribute.
With the help of producer K-Fam and the band 112, the group was able to participate in New York and Atlanta musical auditions for Motown. They attended schools in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg district. As a child, Demetrice practiced music and humor on one accord. He started playing the drums at an early age and built a name for himself as a musician and singer. Demetrice came from a family that valued music and God above all else. He gave concerts for surrounding ministries.
Demetrice lost his father William D. Gillespie, mother Tammy Tate Wilson Martin, uncle Oveer Joyce L. Tate and aunt Theresa Terri Harper as well as his aunts Lisa Redmon and Anthony Eyeball Harper in his family. The way he left behind a legacy of love will be remembered by his son Pierre Shakeal Gillespie from Statesville, NC, father Deven R. Gillespie from Charlotte, NC, and brothers Darius O. Gillespie and Jayden D. Gillespie from Charlotte, NC. Additionally, Demetrice has a sister Destinee A-M Young who lives in Statesville, NC and a special friend Tiera Walker.
Alecia Latimer and Tamara Perry are the godmothers. Godbrothers include DiAsha Posey, Jamarr Mack and Jervass Moss. Destinee Wilson, Krisnee Wilson, Jahacea Wilson and Martin “Kristoff” Wilson II are stepbrothers. Originally from Georgia Wilson’s grandparents, Georgia’s uncles and aunts are Evangelist Addie, Tiffany Gillespie, Victoria Redmond, Lucas Chambers, Tonya Tate, James (Sophia) Davidson, Pastor George Gillespie, Pastor Lonnie Harper Sr., Shimika Bowers and Pastor Norman D. Gillespie. Georgia’s special cousins include Amari McClelland, Tyrell Tate and Tyra McClelland. In addition to these people, Georgia’s special cousins are Preston Gillespie and LJ Harper Jr.
