Doug Kraft obituary, Meditation Guide, Therapist, and Spiritual Explorer death

🌿🧘‍♂️ Meet Doug Kraft: Meditation Guide, Therapist, and Spiritual Explorer 🧘‍♂️🌟

Greetings from Northern California! 👋 I’m Doug Kraft, your friendly neighborhood meditation teacher, therapist, and retired Unitarian Universalist Minister. Life’s journey has taken me across various landscapes, both geographically and spiritually, shaping my perspective and practices.

🌎 A Journey Without Borders:

When asked about my roots, I playfully respond with “nowhere” because, quite literally, I’ve grown up in a tapestry of places:

  • Born in Boston
  • Texas resident at seven weeks old
  • High school in New Jersey
  • Undergrad in Wisconsin
  • Theological training in Berkeley
  • 25 years in New England
  • The last 13 years here in Northern California

💑 Life Partner and Musical Companion:

In 1970, I embarked on a lifelong journey with my incredible wife, Erika. She’s not just a life partner but also a musician, educator, and community organizer. Our journey together has been a harmonious melody, and we’re still in perfect rhythm after almost five decades.

👨‍👩‍👦‍👦 Family Ties: Our family is a source of joy. Nathan and Damon, our two “boys,” have grown into remarkable men—one exploring ecology and the other contemplating diverse career paths. And of course, our lives have been enriched by the furry companionship of many cats, including Lila, our current feline friend.

🧘‍♂️ Meditation Journey:

Since 1975, meditation has been my steadfast companion. I’ve had the privilege of training with luminaries in the field, from Theravadan Buddhists to Zen Masters and Siddha Yoga gurus. My meditation journey is a central theme in the first chapter of “Buddha’s Map.”

🤝 Counseling and Psychotherapy:

My exploration into expressive and humanist psychotherapies, coupled with five years of intensive training in body-oriented Bioenergetics, formed the foundation of my counseling practice. While I once held a license as a Mental Health Counselor in Massachusetts, my path has since shifted, and I now focus on providing guidance without insurance limitations.

Ministry Legacy: Armed with a Masters in Divinity from Starr King School for the Ministry in Berkeley, I served as an ordained Unitarian Universalist Minister for over two dozen years. Recently, I bid farewell to formal ministry to dedicate more time to the profound teachings of the Dhamma.

📚 A New Chapter: As I navigate this new chapter of life, my focus is on sharing the wisdom gained from diverse experiences, whether through meditation, counseling, or the teachings of the Dhamma. Join me in this journey of self-discovery and spiritual exploration! 🚀🌈 #DougKraft #MeditationGuide #SpiritualExplorer #LifeJourney
