Madonna’s Andrea Alimario and Oak Glen’s Ethan Travis, both seniors, earned West Virginia State Second team all-state honors.

Alimario took home the honors in the Women’s A race. She averaged 16.4 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. She shot 42 percent from the field (34 percent from 3-point range) and 72 percent from the charity stripe.

“The first thing that comes to my mind is that it’s a great honor for her to be recognized,” said Madonna head coach Rodney Bonetti. “It’s not just an accomplishment for her senior year, but for her four years here. She Not only on the field but also a co-captain off the field. She was a top student and academically elite. She volunteered with non-profits throughout her life and was a very active member of her church.

“This award is not just for who she is as a player, but for who she is as a person. She is the epitome of what we expect of all our student-athletes. The coaching staff is extremely proud of Andy and the support team that surrounds them.”

“Andy always works hard in the offseason to improve her skills. Basketball means 12 months of the year to her. The coaches love her intelligence on the court and how she adapts to every game. Speed. She’s a coach’s dream.”

For Madonna, Rachel Bonetti and Kennedy Martin received honorable mentions.

For the Class A boys, the Blue Dons’ Gavin Dietrich and Evan Boniti were in the honorable mention category.

Travis made the second team as a member of the boys Class AA team. He averaged 18.3 points, 12.7 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 2 steals and 1.1 blocks per game.

“He really stepped up for us and had a great senior season,” Oak Glen head coach Jerry Everly said. “He’s been working on three-pointers all summer. He showed us he can do it and he’s done 35 percent of them. He brings a lot of energy to the court with his rebounding. A guy who’s 6-foot-3. Being able to do that is hard to replace.”

Sean Smith of the Golden Bears received honorable mention. Also in this category are Weir High’s Luka Haught and Reed Reitter.

For the AA girls, Oak Glen’s Maggie Kovalcik and Alexa Andrews and Weir High’s Sophia Mikula received honorable mentions.
