Elaiza Ikeda is a Filipino-born Japanese actress, model and singer. She started modeling in 2009 after winning the “Grand Priz Nicola Model Audition 2009”. Her mother is Hispanic-Filipino-Chinese and her father is Japanese.
This is the third adaptation of Sion Sono’s manga source material, Minna! Supernatural power! By Kiminori Wakasugi. The manga’s first live-action television adaptation premiered in April 2013 as a 12-episode live-action series. A live-action spin-off TV special called All Esper Dayo! SP aired in Japan on April 3, 2015. This theatrical adaptation called Eiga Minna! Supernatural power! The cast differs from earlier TV adaptations, most notably Alyssa Ikeda replacing Xia Fan as Miyuki Hirano.
The film opened in Japan on September 4, 2015, just a few months after Sion Sono’s TV special All Esper Dayo! SP adapted from the manga. It was also screened at several international film festivals, including Busan International Film Festival on October 2, 2015, Sitges Film Festival on October 11, 2015 (Sion Sono also screened Labels and Love and Peace “), and the Buenos Aires Film Festival in 2015. April 9, 2016, Italian Future Film Festival on May 5, 2016, Edinburgh International Film Festival on June 20, 2016, Eejanaika Toyohashi Film Festival on March 5, 2017.
Critics generally found the film to be full of sexual innuendo and discussion, but no actual nudity or sex. Justin Chang of Variety.com called the film “occasionally likable, but often downright annoying,” concluding that it was “kind of like having a dog kick your leg for almost two hours; it’s It’s dirty and drab and pretty much endless, but after a while you’re completely blown away and you have to admit it’s kind of cute.” Wendy Ide of Screen Daily wrote, “For all his cosplay sex slaves, piles Blow-up dolls and crazy masturbation, this one is as docile as a Benny Hill sketch, innocent in many ways.”
