Jace’s story is only just beginning; in the book Fire & Blood, George R.R. Martin states that Jacaerys Velaryon is a child seen previously on the TV show House of the Dragon. The show centers on a fictional country named Draconia and its political system, which mirrors medieval feudalism. Soon the show will involve an entire family in its plot line.
Jaehaerys grew up in a simple childhood with few luxuries.
Rhaenyra Targaryen has two publicly acknowledged firstborn sons: Jacaerys Velaryon and Laenor Velaryon. However, in truth, both of those statements are false. Rhaenyra had a sexual relationship with Ser Harwin Strong, and the two have three sons together. Additionally, Jacaerys Velayron, who is named Jace, is the actual firstborn son born to Rhaenyra and her first husband Laenor Velaryon. This is publicly stated as fact, but it isn’t true in reality. King Viserys wants his two sons to share a wet nurse so they can grow closer through breastfeeding. He hopes this will reduce the tension between them and help them bond as milk brothers. However, this doesn’t actually work out the way he intended it to.
Jace is surrounded by eggs from dragons as tradition dictates. Vermax, the first dragon to hatch from one of Jace’s eggs, grows up to be his enemy. When Alicent and Viserys’ children accuse the Velaryon boys of not being their real relatives, a fight breaks out. The same happens during the squabble over who should inherit Corlys Velaryon’s position after he dies. And when Alicent’s sons accuse the Velaryon cousins of being illegitimate, this argument quickly turns into a full-fledged fight.
Jacaerys and Baela’s relationship
4-year-old Jace is betrothed to Laenor’s sister Baela Targaryen, the daughter of Daemon Targaryen and Laena Velaryon. Because they’re still quite young, their actual marriage isn’t expected to take place for many more years. However, a civil war called the Dance of Dragons begins when Jace is 14. He is then assigned the role of envoy and heir to gather support for his mother’s cause.
Jace Stark of Winterfell, the Lord of Winter and head of the Stark family, seeks support from Lord Cregan Stark, Sara Snow’s half-brother and Cregan’s illegitimate half-sister. It is believed that Jace secretly married her; however, other sources dispute this rumor or claim that Jace married Sara in public before secretly marrying Baela Stark. Regardless of the marriage status of Jace and Baela, it is believed that he delays marriage due to the ongoing war.
What Happened to Jacaerys?
Jace tries to keep his other family members safe from the Dance of Dragons, even if that means endangering his middle brother Lucerys. To prevent his youngest half-brothers Aegon and Viserys from being caught in the crossfire, Jace smuggles them to safety in Pentos. However, one of their ships is captured by Triarchy forces and Viserys manages to escape on his dragon. Jace and Vermax lead a cavalry charge against the Triarchy navy during the battle that follows.
After Jace crashes his airship into a ship, it looks like the Vermax army will triumph. However, Jace is injured and falls into a different vessel. When this happens, he lands in another craft and is killed by a crossbow bolt. This unexpected loss causes Rhaenyra’s forces to lose momentum in the war. However, it’s apparent that Jace’s quick thinking in saving his younger brothers was correct; both Aegon and Viserys wind up as kings after the war.
