Jay Archer dead, Jayo Archer Obituary cherished member of the Carmel community

In loving memory of Jay W. Archer, a cherished member of the Carmel community, who peacefully passed away on October 19, 2016, at the age of 58. Born on October 23, 1957, in Byesville, OH, Jay spent his formative years in Bloomington and Indianapolis, IN. A proud alumnus of Indiana University, he graduated from The Kelley School of Business in 1980, where he was an active member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and the IU Student Foundation. It was at IU that he met and fell in love with Alison (Desmond) Archer, whom he married on June 19, 1982.

Jay dedicated the majority of his professional life to the field of commercial real estate development, contributing 30 years of service at Duke Realty before embarking on a new chapter as a partner at Pure Development. His passion for the industry was matched by his commitment to philanthropy. Jay served on the Board of Trustees for the Cancer Support Community for over 16 years and received The Goldwasser, the organization’s highest award, in early 2016. Additionally, he actively supported March of Dimes, United Way, and Wheeler Mission.

A man of unwavering faith and strong family values, Jay was a devoted member of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church. He cherished moments spent with his family, whether at their Lake Monroe lake house during summer weekends or hosting gatherings at home on Sundays and holidays. An avid fan of IU football and basketball, he rarely missed a home Colts game. Jay lived by the mantra of Faith, Family, and Friends, bringing joy to those around him and embracing each day to the fullest.

Jay is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Alison; children, Lindsey (Jonathan) Shaw and Kevin Archer; parents, William and Eileen Archer; brothers, Jeffery (Patricia) and Patrick (Rene) Archer; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Vincent and Judith Desmond; brother-in-law, Mark (Terra) Desmond; and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate Jay’s life at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church on Monday, October 24, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., with the recitation of the Rosary at 3:30 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, October 25, at 10:15 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church.
