
Born in San Francisco, California, Kathleen Johnson was raised in the Palo Alto area of the Bay Area. She attended Castilleja School, which is an all-girls school in Palo Alto. Kathleen was a quiet, studious girl who was well liked by everyone. In one year, she served as the student body president and was an assistant yearbook editor. She graduated from the University of California with a degree in political science.
Jennifer McElvenar met Henry Eyring when she attended Harvard’s summer school one particular summer. Though he pursued her through multiple channels for months, she ultimately returned to Berkeley for college as Henry’s bride in 1962. The Eyrings are parents of six children: four sons and two daughters.
Kathleen served as a Primary president, board member of the Stake Relief Society, counselor to a Relief Society presidency, nursery coordinator, served on their ward activities committee and a Relief Society teacher.
