Krista Martin supernatural obituary and dead, was killed in 1989 in Wichita

A suspect in the 1989 sexual assault and murder of 20-year-old Krista Martin has been identified by the Wichita Police Department, as announced in a statement on Monday. The suspect, Paul Hart, was named posthumously, having died in a traffic collision in 1999. Krista Martin was tragically found deceased in a residence in the 500 block of South Osage on October 2, 1989.

Despite DNA evidence being collected at the time, testing capabilities were limited. However, the preserved evidence became a crucial component in the reinvigorated investigation. Over the years, investigators pursued leads and collected DNA from multiple individuals for comparison, yet no match was found. Efforts to identify a suspect in 1990-1992 and 2009 proved unsuccessful.

In 2020, leveraging advanced technology, the Wichita Police Department sought FBI assistance to re-evaluate the DNA evidence. The collaboration extended into 2021 and 2022, involving private industry genealogists to scrutinize DNA profiles. In April 2023, a possible suspect, Paul Hart, was identified. Further investigation revealed that Hart had died in a traffic collision in Memphis, Tennessee, in March 1999.

DNA samples from Hart’s direct relatives were collected, confirming him as the suspect in Krista Martin’s 1989 homicide. Detective Adam VanDerMolen noted that although Martin’s DNA was recovered from a sexual assault kit, the cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma to the side of her head. The investigation, spanning decades, faced challenges, and the connection between Hart and Martin remains unclear, despite residing near each other at the time of the murder.
