Makayla’s mother, Angela Brewster, remembers her as a lover of skateboarding, volleyball and TikTok.

She said Makayla was bullied which led to the tragic incident.

Angela wants to help families and raise awareness. She said six teenagers had committed suicide in Broken Arrow [BA] since October 2020. The youngest is a freshman at the BA Freshman Academy.

Makayla lived with her parents in Chouteau for a short time after her birth before the family moved to Broken Arrow in October 2009, where she has lived ever since. At the time, she was in seventh grade at Broken Arrow Public School. Makayla is a member of the Broken Arrow Church of the Nazarene.

She was a cheerful, intelligent, funny young woman loved by all who knew her and we miss her dearly. She is survived by her parents, Anthony and Angela Brewster of Broken Arrow, and two sisters, Brianna and Presley Brewster of Broken Arrow.

Makayla Lynn Brewster is the daughter of Anthony William and Angela (Peters) Brewster. Born in Pryor on February 16, 2008, she committed suicide at her home in Broken Arrow on February 11, 2021, at the age of 12.

People who have experienced violence such as child abuse, bullying or sexual assault are more likely to commit suicide. Suicidal thoughts and behaviors can be reduced with family and community support and easy access to healthcare.
