Born to Paul Willard and Carol (Stevens) Van Winkle on June 17, 1971, in Geneseo, Illinois, Mike Van Winkle spent his formative years on a farm, eagerly anticipating his graduation from Geneseo High School in 1989. Post-high school, he pursued studies in Diesel Mechanics at Spoon River College in Canton, Illinois.

In 2003, Mike met Jillian Wood, and together they relocated to North Liberty, Iowa. Throughout his career, Mike served as an over-the-road truck driver, specializing in livestock transportation and flatbed trailer operation. In the final nine years of his professional journey, he assumed the role of Head of Maintenance at Holiday Mobile Home Court in North Liberty. Mike cherished his work, forming strong bonds with coworkers and a boss who became an extended family.

Passionate about working on semi-trucks and small engines, Mike was always ready to lend a helping hand wherever needed. His love for fishing manifested in the constant presence of a fishing pole in the back of his pick-up.

Mike’s enduring legacy lies in his unwavering willingness to assist others. Whether day or night, he would drop everything to aid someone in need, even going so far as to offer the shirt off his back. Mike became an integral part of numerous families, earning a place in their hearts.

Survived by his wife, Jillian Wood, and children Madison and Mackenzie Van Winkle of North Liberty, Iowa, and Michaela (Josh) Remmels of Cuba, Illinois, Mike is also mourned by his parents, Paul and Carol (Stevens) Van Winkle; siblings Christian Van Winkle and Paula (Ron) Johnson; father-in-law Dave and Peg Griffin-Wood, and Sharon Barr; as well as brother-in-law Justin (Ellee) Wood and their three children.
