Netflix premieres the novel Monsters: The Geoffrey Dahmer Story by Ian Brennan and Ryan Murphy. Dahmer, one of the most terrifying and notorious serial killers in black American history, committed his first murder in 1978, when his victim was Steven Hicks, a man he was pandering to, the person who picked him up at the car. The serial killer was active until 1991 and killed 17 men and boys in Wisconsin and Ohio.
His crimes caused a stir because, in addition to brutally murdering his victims, Dahmer engaged in necrophilia and cannibalism. Also known as the Milwaukee Butcher, the Milwaukee Monster, and even the Milwaukee Vampire, after murdering his victims, Dahmer dismembered them and ate his remains.
Dahmer was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, schizotypal personality disorder, and psychotic disorder. At trial, however, he considered himself legally sane. Dahmer was serving 15 life sentences for 15 of the 16 murders he committed in Wisconsin. He was later sentenced to a sixteenth life sentence for another homicide in Ohio.
His death was also marked by brutality. On November 28, 1994, he was beaten to death at Columbia Correctional Institution in Portage, Wisconsin, by another inmate who had been diagnosed with schizophrenia, Christopher Scarver, who killed another inmate in the same fight.
Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story is not the first work that revolves around the image of this creepy serial killer. In 2002, Dahmer the Milwaukee Butcher, directed by David Jacobson and starring Jeremy Renner, was released.
2006 saw the release of Raising Jeffrey Dahmer, which focused on Dahmer’s parents’ reactions after Dahmer’s arrest in 1991, and was released in 2017, with Mark Meyer’s “My Friend Dahmer”. There are also many documentaries, such as Conversations with the Killer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes, available on Netflix.
