Siyabonga Zubane dead, Memorial and funeral details

South Africans have been shocked to learn of the death of 23-year-old Gomora actor Siyabonga Zubane, who played the infamous character Sdumo on the show. The Drum reported that the actor died on Saturday, May 7, 2022.

Speaking to TRUELOVE, Gift Motaung, a close friend of Siyabonga and owner of All Saints Funeral Home, said that the late actor’s funeral will be held in Tembisa on Sunday, May 15, 2022.

“A memorial service will be held at the Joburg Theater in Braamfontein on Thursday 12 May from 2-5pm. This will be followed by a memorial service at Klipfontein Community Hall on Sunday 15 May,” he said.

Motaung also revealed that he asked Siyabonga’s family to allow him to arrange a funeral and ensure that he was buried with dignity.

“I knew Siyabonga from the [entertainment] industry and because I knew the circumstances of the death of artists in that industry, I opened a funeral home so artists could be buried with dignity and with a personal touch. I wanted Siyabonga to be recognized as an actor. Remember,” he shared.

In response to reports that the actor’s death was a suicide, Motaung denied the claims, saying the family is still investigating.

“Siyabonga’s cause of death is not yet known. We are still awaiting the results of the autopsy,” he revealed.

On the same day (Thursday), a second memorial service will be held at the Tshwane University of Technology Art and Design campus in Pretoria, led by the school’s students.
