Gan has been with the company for less than two years before becoming CEO of OnlyF in December 2021. She started at the London-based social platform in September 2020 as Chief Marketing and Communications Officer. Gan, 37, took the top job after founder Tim Stokely left the company in December 2021, Insider previously reported. In August 2021, OnlyFans announced it would ban sexually explicit content, only to reverse the decision a few weeks later. Stockley’s departure comes months after reunification.
Gan was a surprising choice to be CEO after a brief stint at OnlyF. But Gan said her people skills set her apart from other tech CEOs. “You have business leaders who went to prestigious Ivy League schools; they’re unresponsive. I’m the complete opposite,” Gan told TIME in a July 2022 interview.
She currently lives in Miami, but previously lived in Los Angeles. After graduating from Cal State University, she earned a BA in Public Relations and Organizational Communications.
Before joining OnlyF, Gan was the Vice President of Marketing and Advertising for Cannabis Cafe in West Hollywood. Her early career included communications roles at Lowell Herb, Red Bull and protein bar company Quest Nutrition.
“From the outside world, it’s this unknown woman who runs one of the biggest tech companies,” Gan said at the 2022 GQ Heroes Conference. They are perfect for the top jobs. “I come from a non-traditional background, but also have very strong opinions,” she told TIME.
