Tevin Jermod Campbell is an American singer and songwriter. From an early age, he preached the gospel in the local church. After auditioning for jazz musician Bobbi Humphrey in 1988, Campbell signed with Warner Bros. Records. In 1989, Campbell teamed up with Quincy Jones as lead singer on Jones’ album Back on the Block’s “Tomorrow” and released his platinum-selling debut album T.E.V.I.N. The album features his highest-grossing single to date, “Tell Me What You Want Me to Do”, which peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100. The debut album also features the singles “Alone With You” (produced by Al B. Sure and Kyle West, voiced by Jodeci’s K-Ci and JoJo) and “Goodbye”.
His second double platinum album, “I’m Ready”, released in 1993, contained two chart-topping songs written by Babyface; “Can We Talk” reached No. 9 on the Hot 100 and No. 9 on Billboard R&B It peaked at number 1 on the chart, and the album’s title track “I’m Ready” also peaked at number 9 on the Hot 100. In 1996, Campbell released his third album, Back to the World, but it was not as successful either commercially or critically as his first two albums. In addition to music, Campbell embarked on an acting career where he starred in Prince’s Purple Rain sequel Doodle Bridge, and cameo appearances on the TV shows Fresh Prince of Bel Air and Moesha, who voiced fictional pop star Powerline in Disney’s A Goofy film. .
